Joe Eason
Dwain A. (Joe) Eason is the founding pastor of Trinity Baptist Church, and he has continuously served in that capacity since 1975. In 2025, we celebrated Trinity’s golden anniversary and our pastor’s leadership of 50 years!
Joe was born in Jesup, Georgia to Homer and Mary (Todd) Eason. He grew up in Liberty County, Georgia with six brothers and a sister. He attended Gum Branch Baptist Church and preached his first sermon there when he was fourteen years of age during a youth service.
Throughout high school and college, he sang in a southern gospel quartet and would preach in regular church services, church-wide revivals, and youth revivals. His boyhood pastors, L. A. Savage and Thomas Barnard had a great impact on his preaching career, as did his father, who was a licensed lay speaker.
Reverend Eason was educated at Bradwell Institute (High School), Brewton-Parker Christian University (A.A.), Georgia Southern University (BSed), Georgia Southern University Graduate School, and Luther Rice Seminary. His preaching and pastoral ministry includes his first work as the youth pastor of Hinesville First Baptist Church (Hinesville, Georgia) and then the role of pastor at Northside Baptist Church (Glennville, Georgia), Mendes Baptist Church (Mendes, Georgia), and Register Baptist Church (Register, Georgia) before beginning his long-time pastoral position here at Trinity Baptist Church in Nevils, Georgia.
Pastor Eason met his wonderful wife-to-be, Nancy Jones, while conducting a revival service at Register Baptist Church. He married Nancy, the daughter of Lavon and Evelyn Jones, and they have three children: Elizabeth Bauman (married to Barry), Mollye Eason (1977-2009), and Joseph Eason. Joe and Nancy have four grandchildren: Emily, Brett, Benji, and Ellie Bauman. Their “granddog”, Eli, is also an important part of the Eason family!
Mr. Eason was an original high school faculty member of Pinewood Christian Academy in Bellville, Georgia where he taught History, Bible, English, and other subjects from 1971 until 1995. While at Pinewood, he served as the Academy’s chaplain and conducted weekly chapel services for the lower and upper schools. He developed Pinewood’s high school chorus and led several soloists, trios, and quartets to region and state literary competitions in the Georgia Independent School Association. Awarded Teacher of the Year in 1987, he instilled Christian values to hundreds during his tenure at Pinewood. Mr. Eason also taught college courses at Brewton-Parker College for several years. He was named Ministerial Alumnus of the Year at Brewton-Parker in 2007 (Class of 1968).
Over the years, Pastor Eason has delivered inspirational messages to audiences at a number of revivals, graduation ceremonies, and important community events. He has served as a Guest Chaplain to the Georgia State Senate, preached a revival in Italy, represented Trinity Baptist Church at several Southern Baptist Convention annual meetings, and served on the Nominating Committee at the Georgia Baptist Convention.
Most importantly, Pastor Eason loves God and His Church. Brother Joe provides comforting words and wisdom during the most difficult times of this life, and he celebrates with the Church whether it’s on the occasion of performing a baptism or conducting a wedding. His effective leadership has provided Trinity Baptist Church with a rich heritage and an exciting roadmap for its future.
